Megara is founded with the goal to help organizations cut through the complexity, prioritize, and understand the risks related to sanctions and export controls.
What we do.
Sanctions and export controls laws are notoriously volatile, complex, and not seldom ambiguous in nature. The sources of information are often fragmented and unintuitive. Consequently, trade compliance can be a time-consuming, tedious, and complex process. Megara is founded with the goal to help organizations cut through the complexity, prioritize, and understand the risks related to sanctions and export controls.
& How we do it.
Megara is named after the Megarian Decree (the first known economic sanctions law in history), which symbolizes the company’s ‘back to basics’ approach: Advising and educating from a legal, economic, geopolitical, and regulatory perspective. Together with a deep knowledge of UN, EU and US sanctions and export controls laws and regulations, we assist our clients in effectively and efficiently identifying and mitigating risks, allocating resources, and enabling them to integrate trade compliance into their long-term strategic planning.
About our Founder
Megara is founded by Stéphanie Broekaart, who finds endless inspiration, energy, and fascination in the fast pace, volatility, and complexity of trade controls.
With many years of experience in both an international banking and corporate environment, she has gained first-hand knowledge of the challenges and pitfalls that sanctions and export controls present for organizations operating globally. The experience she gained in managing these risks has motivated her to launch Megara to assist other organizations in navigating the ever-changing and challenging sanctions and export controls landscape.
Stéphanie holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Amsterdam, and a bachelor’s degree in Dutch and European law from Tilburg University, the Netherlands and Deusto University in Bilbao, Spain. She regularly speaks and publishes on the topic of sanctions and export controls.
